Park City Homes for Sale

Approximately 7,370 people currently reside in Park City, Utah, which was a setting for some events in the 2002 Olympic Winter games. This number, however, increases by the thousands during the summer and winter vacation seasons. Located just outside of Salt Lake City, population growth has been apparent in the past few years as homes for sale in Park City are bought by individuals looking to enjoy the exclusive lifestyle this resort town has to offer.

A Housing Evolution

The homes for sale in Park City today have come a long way since the town’s beginning as a bustling mining community. Back in 1868 when silver was first discovered in the nearby mountains, miners built houses for value and functionality, not for beauty or durability. These houses were noted for cheap, easy construction and simple designs.

Among the most popular housing types were the T-cottage and the pyramid house. A T-cottage, accounting for 51 percent of homes before 1889, consisted of two wings intersecting at right angles. Named for the pyramid shaped roof, pyramid houses were four-room square buildings with a front porch. Many of these houses still exist today along the streets of the Old Town historic district. They represent the humble beginnings of what has become a flourishing real estate market.

Building the Future

Today, homes for sale in Park City come in the form of modern, sophisticated condominiums and beautiful, expansive estates. Both housing options blend contemporary living with rustic elegance in this exclusive resort town. Although each property offers its own taste of the city’s character, homes run the extremes in price, size and amenities.

  • Moderate living

If you are interested in enjoying the Park City lifestyle in upscale housing without the steep price, condominium living may be right for you. For less than $100,000 to the mid-$400,000s, you can own a classy condo in a range of sizes with stunning mountain views. Condos can be as small as 400 square feet or as large as 2,500 square feet, and some come with as many as three bedrooms and three baths. Many units are located in new developments featuring unique styling, luxurious amenities and immaculate landscaping. In the past year, sales of condos in the area have risen 43 percent. With a price increase of only 8 percent in the same time, purchasing a condo is a good idea.

  • Living the high life

There is some overlap in the prices of houses and condos, but single-family homes in the area can range from $100,000 to multi-million dollar figures. The most expensive houses resemble small resorts with living space as large as 10,000 square feet or more and include upscale amenities such as multiple fireplaces, custom finishes and big lots. These grand estates reflect the mountain environment around them with large picture windows, wraparound porches and unique styling.

Park City’s housing market has been thriving with a 46 percent increase in the median number of homes sold over the past year. As more vacationers and second-home buyers come to the area, homes for sale in Park City will not last long.
